 · Launch Complex 39

October 2005

A model of Launch Complex 39 at Kennedy Space Center.

I have three different LEGO Space Shuttles (the large Technic one, the one from the Shuttle Launch Pad and the tiny one that comes with the ISS) and I finally decided to build a replica of Launch Complex 39 at Kennedy Space Center in Florida (where the real thing takes off). I attempted to build it staying as close as possible to the original, and here is the result.
As my LEGO part supply is limited, I stuck to the micro-Space-Shuttle scale. Otherwise I would have been building a 1.5 meter high structure... Next, I show pictures of my creation along with photos of the original Launch Complex, side by side.

The Space Shuttle is a modified version of the one included in the ISS set. I noticed that the wings were way too big in comparison with the body, so I adjusted that part making its overall size bigger. I added the third main engine and the two smaller ones. Too bad I didn't have orange parts for the large tank.
